Tips for Writing on Fabric for Your Custom Wedding Stationery

Have you ever thought about adding a personal touch to your wedding stationery by writing on fabric? Whether it’s a heartfelt message or this beautiful bar menu that I created for Gabby and John, fabric can be a unique medium to make your wedding details stand out! If you’re thinking about trying this yourself, here are a few tops to make sure your writing looks amazing!

Prep your fabric

Before you start writing on your fabric, there are a few things to prep. Make sure to iron the area you’ll be working on using a low heat setting. Doing so will help smooth out any wrinkles on the fabric. This will give you a clean, flat surface to write on!

Mark your words

Next, you want to make sure to make your words. Use a pencil or a fabric pen to lightly mark where you want your text to go. Fabric pens are great because they can disappear with a quick spray of water, leaving no trace behind. You can find some great fabric pens on Amazon that will do the trick!

Keep it straight

To make sure that your lines of text are perfectly straight, use a ruler as a straight edge to guide your writing. This simple tool can make a huge difference in how neat and polished your final product looks on the fabric.

Set up your work space

A well-lit and flat surface is key! Good lighting will help you see your work clearly and prevent any mistakes that can happen in low light. Plus, working on a flat surface ensures that your fabric stays in place as your writing.

easy tracing tip!

Here’s a tip! If you’re working with lighter fabrics, here’s something I do: place the fabric over a piece of paper with the writing already done. The light fabric will allow you to trace the wording directly onto it, ensuring your text is EXACTLY how you want it!
